Hi! I’m Sherry Liu. Currently I am the Creative Director at Fresh ID. I started there part-time as a Graphic Designer and signed on to be full-time in Jan 2011. I am also a partner in Umbel Labs.

My Education:

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Sociology from the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). I have an Associates degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institutes International Kansas City.

Organizations:

I am fairly active in AIGA Kansas City and the American Advertising Federation of Kansas City (AAF-KC).

With a team of other women, I help found Women United Football Club, a website for women to talk about soccer.

Volunteer

I have volunteered my design skills for the Lyric Opera Guild of Kansas City and BoysGrow (as part of Virtual Agency with AAF-KC).

I also do work on the side for my parent’s restaurant in Rolla, MO, Kyoto.

About me:

I grew up mostly in Rolla, MO and moved back to Kansas City for college. I started at UMKC’s medical program and quickly realized it was not for me. I dropped out of the program and finished a degree in Psychology in Dec 2008. At that time I was working part-time as a Marketing & Design Coordinator doing small magazine ads and email campaigns here and there for Sherriff & Associates. Then I realized that I wanted to do graphic design. I tried to get job with my experience but that wasn’t enough. I didn’t have a background in graphic design. So after some research, I found the Art Institutes in Chicago. I enrolled, took an online class and loved it. So I packed up my little RAV4 and was getting ready to drive to Chicago for school. But then I found out that the Art Institutes had opened a new school in Kansas City. I thought about it, and decided to stay in Kansas City.

While going to school, I worked part-time at Glitters. I handled their marketing collateral and did data entry.

I received an associates degree in graphic design in Sept 2010. And the day after school was over, I started part time work for Fresh ID. Then in Jan 2011 I was hired full time as the Art Director. Since then it’s been a crazy but awesome experience. We’ve grown so much in such a short time and I am excited about the rest of the year! I am now a Creative Director at Fresh ID and enjoying every minute of it even w hen I get stressed out.
